Abstract:
Human dignity, meaning the respect and value of a person as a unique and unparalleled being, refers to one of the key anthropological discussions and a fundamental principle in human rights. According to this concept, every human being has numerous rights and values that must be respected, and no person should be used as a means to achieve the goals of others. One of the manifestations of human dignity is the preservation of their reputation and honor. Islamic laws and teachings always emphasize respecting human dignity and preserving their reputation in individual and social relationships. However, discussing reputation and honor as a principle that can guide the implementation of rulings has been less frequently addressed by jurists. The present research is aimed at analyzing the views of Imamiyah jurists using a descriptive-analytical method to assess the feasibility of extraction of a jurisprudential and principled rule based on the related jurisprudential rulings on reputation and honor and their jurisprudential sources. Accordingly, the principle of the obligation to preserve honor and the prohibition of its violation can be a source for deriving many rulings in various fields such as interpersonal, worship, financial, judicial, medical rights, and so on.
